Minecraft is still one of the most popular games in the world. It has 91 million monthly active players , according to Microsoft. But any reference to Persson is gone from that splash screen. His name still shows up in the credits. But Microsoft no longer seems interested in celebrating him, either. Since then, Microsoft has worked to transition the game into a live service with cross platform capabilities and a thriving, community-supported marketplace. Notch, meanwhile, has turned into a lonely, bizarre internet creep. Despite having billions of dollars and a Beverly Hill mansion with towering candy dispensers all along one of its walls, he spends time trying to provoke people on Twitter. He just wants to trigger snowflakes. And that is the person that Microsoft saved Minecraft from. But Microsoft is solving this by taking ownership over Minecraft on a cultural level. Microsoft is the company that released the Xbox One Adaptive Controller to make games more accessible for disabled people.

Persson has also tweeted right-wing slogans such as » It’s OK to be white ,» and he’s said that anyone who recognizes systemic racial biases and imbalance within Western society is racist. In , he tweeted, «If you’re against the concept of a HeterosexualPrideDay, you’re a complete fucking cunt and deserve to be shot,» though this, too, was subsequently deleted.

The creator of «Minecraft» isn’t allowed to participate in the game’s year anniversary celebrations, Microsoft says. The year anniversary celebrates the launch of «Minecraft» as a playable game. It entered what is known as «alpha» — a software development jargon term that refers to the first usable form of software — on Minecfaft 17, Microsoft is hosting an event to celebrate the upcoming anniversary, and says Persson isn’t welcome.
